The architecture
There are three layers to what we build, and each has its own name.
- Parlar — the company. We build the real-time translation infrastructure: the AI models, the voice-cloning pipeline, the privacy architecture, and the platform that powers everything below it.
- Parlare— the product. The app you download, the calls you make, the messages you send. Parlare is where Parlar's technology meets the people who use it.
- Dub™— the engine. Parlar's proprietary real-time voice translation technology. Sub-200ms. Voice-cloned. Bi-directional across 19+ languages. The thing that makes translated calls feel like regular calls.
This is a deliberate structure. Parlar owns the infrastructure layer. Parlare is the consumer expression of it. Dub™ is the technology that makes it real.
Why the names
Parlaris the verb root for “to speak” in Catalan and Occitan — and the shared ancestor of the same word across French (parler), Italian (parlare), Portuguese (falar), Romanian (a vorbi), and Spanish (hablar). We named the company after the root because we are building the root: the foundational layer that language-agnostic communication is built on.
Parlareis the Italian infinitive of the same word. It carries the full weight of the act — the warmth, the gesture, the completeness of speech. We named the app after it because the app is where the act happens. You open Parlare and you speak. That's it.
One word. Two layers. The company holds the infrastructure. The product holds the moment.
This is a common structure
Many of the world's most valuable technology brands operate this way — a parent company that builds the infrastructure, and a product brand that carries the relationship with the end user.
- Instagram is a product of Meta. Most users never think about Meta.
- Photoshop is a product of Adobe. The product name became the verb.
- Notion is a product of Notion Labs, Inc. The legal entity is invisible.
- Linear is a product of Linear Orbit. You've probably never heard of Linear Orbit.
The difference here is that Parlar and Parlare are not arbitrary names. They are the same word, expressed at two different layers of the same architecture. That is not an accident. It is the point.
For builders and partners
Parlare is the consumer app. Parlar is the company you work with when you want to integrate real-time translation into your own product.
If you are a developer, enterprise partner, or investor, you are working with Parlar. If you are a user, you are using Parlare. Both names refer to the same team, the same technology, and the same mission.
