Parlar (“we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your personal data. By using the Parlar application (“Service”), you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, password
- Profile data: display name, avatar photo, language preferences, preferred AI voice
- Voice sample: if you use the My Voice cloning feature (biometric data)
- Messages and media: text messages, images, and video files you send through the Service
- Contact data: contacts you add, their language preferences and relationship notes
- Billing information: processed securely through Stripe or Apple; we do not store full card details
Information collected automatically:
- Device identifiers, operating system version, and app version
- Push notification tokens and VoIP push tokens (iOS APNs)
- Call metadata: duration, participants, language pairs, dubbing seconds used, caption seconds used
- App usage data, crash reports, and error logs
- Presence and activity status (online, away, offline)
- IP address and general geographic region
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Parlar Service
- Enable real-time speech translation, voice dubbing, and live captions during calls
- Deliver text messages and translate message content on request
- Process subscription payments and manage your account and billing
- Send transactional communications: email verification, password reset, billing receipts
- Deliver push notifications for incoming calls, messages, and account activity
- Show your presence status to your contacts
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Analyse aggregated, anonymised usage patterns to improve the Service
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
We do not use your personal data for advertising or sell it to third-party advertisers. We do not use your message content or call audio to train AI models without your explicit, separately obtained consent.
3. Audio, Voice, and Call Data
Call audio is processed in real time by our AI pipeline (powered by OpenAI's Realtime API) to perform transcription, translation, and voice synthesis. Raw audio streams are not permanently recorded or stored. Call metadata (participants, duration, language pairs, dubbing minutes consumed) is retained for billing and account management purposes for up to 12 months.
If you use the My Voice feature, your voice sample is transmitted to and stored by ElevenLabs, Inc. to generate a voice clone. Your voice is biometric data. By submitting a sample you explicitly consent to this processing. You can delete your voice profile at any time from your account settings, at which point we will request deletion from ElevenLabs. Complete removal from all systems may take up to 30 days. Please also review ElevenLabs' Privacy Policy at elevenlabs.io.
4. Message and Media Data
Text messages and shared media files are stored on our servers to enable delivery, message history, and on-demand translation. Messages may be processed by third-party AI services for translation purposes. We do not sell, share, or use message content for advertising.
Media files are stored in encrypted form on AWS S3. Access URLs are time-limited and signed. When you delete a message or conversation, that content is removed from our systems within 30 days. Ephemeral Moments expire and are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share information with trusted third-party service providers only to the extent necessary to operate the Service.
We may also disclose information: (a) to comply with applicable law, regulation, or valid legal process; (b) to protect the rights, property, or safety of Parlar, our users, or the public; or (c) in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide the Service and comply with our legal obligations. Specifically:
- Account and profile data: retained until account deletion
- Call metadata: up to 12 months
- Message content: until deleted by you or account closure, then removed within 30 days
- Voice samples: until deleted by you, then removed from our systems and ElevenLabs within 30 days
- Billing records: as required by applicable tax and financial regulations (typically 7 years)
You can request deletion of your account and all associated personal data at any time through your profile settings. Upon deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
7. Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data, including:
- Encryption of data in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher
- Encryption of data at rest on our servers and in cloud storage
- Password hashing using PBKDF2-SHA256 with individual salts
- Rate limiting and brute-force protection on authentication endpoints
- Access controls limiting employee access to personal data
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to responding promptly to any security incident and notifying affected users as required by law.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion: request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Portability: request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Objection: object to or request restriction of certain processing activities

To exercise these rights, please use the “Delete account” option in your profile settings or contact us at support@parlar.app. We will respond to all verifiable requests within 30 days, or within the timeframe required by applicable law.
9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your California rights, contact us at support@parlar.app.
10. European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data under the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, service improvement), compliance with legal obligations, and your explicit consent (for biometric voice data and optional AI training). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@parlar.app and we will take steps to delete that information.
12. International Data Transfers
Parlar operates globally and your personal data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ. Where required by applicable law, we implement appropriate safeguards for such transfers, including standard contractual clauses approved by the relevant authorities.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification before they take effect. The effective date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last updated.
